not getting any spark, I need to know how the timing and the information that you may have about how to tell if the tape is bad, I bought this outboard motor vintage and want to make it operational . but I do not know were to start I'm used to working on cars not small engine, but I want to give him a thank you for your help

Could be caused by several different problems. Best to buy a service manual. It will guide you through the steps to solve your problem and save you money in the long term. Here is a good source:
